Mite FAQ

When does the season start?

Registration typically opens in August, with the hockey season beginning in October.

What is the difference between the Termite and Supermite programs?

Termites

The Termite program is designed for beginning skaters ages 4–6. The focus is on introducing the game of hockey and developing fundamental skating and hockey skills in a fun, encouraging environment.

Supermites

The Supermite program is intended for players ages 7–9, as well as younger players who have at least two years of Termite experience and demonstrate above-average skating ability and enthusiasm for the game. The program introduces team hockey concepts while continuing to build individual skills and foster a lifelong love of hockey.

I missed the registration deadline. Is it too late to register?

Absolutely not! If you missed the registration deadline, please email our Mite Unit Director to inquire about joining the program.

If the season has already started (late September or later), there may be a short delay while your registration is processed and a team assignment is made.

What is the purpose of OMC Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance?

The RYHA Mite program partners with OMC Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance to reinforce the skills being taught on the ice. Off-ice training provides players with additional opportunities to develop balance, coordination, and hockey-specific movements.

Because players in both the Termite and Supermite programs possess a wide range of abilities, these off-ice sessions can be especially beneficial for those who are still developing their skating and overall athletic skills.
